Melissa Mauri was born and raised in Kent, CT, where she grew up exploring and experiencing the woodlands of Northwestern CT. She draws inspiration from the intangible energy that flows through this world in every living entity and its own unique expression. She enjoys merging the physical and energetic properties to depict our raw experiences on this earth using color and texture, with a focus on femininity and nature.

She has always loved art and has been deeply involved with art throughout her schooling. She studied  at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where she studied Art and Design Education with a minor in painting.

After taking a couple years off of college to save money, she suffered a back injury caused quite a disruption in her plan. She was out of work for about 8-9 months with no way of making money. Because of this, she created Memauri Arts where she shared the art she has already made in different forms. She also began getting more involved in her local artist community, especially the Kent Art Association, and even joined up with artist Morgan Pietrorazio and co-founded the Northeast Emerging Artist Association. Now she is back on track and transferring to Lesley University where she will study to become an art therapist and encourage others to discover and value their own unique artistic voice and expression
