WHY I STARTED MEMAURI ARTS

Art has always been my passion and my place to work through traumas - highs and lows in my life. It has been a place where I can make something good and beautiful out of something painful.

Memauri Arts is exactly that.

In August of 2025, I got a herniated disc while working as a gardener. As of September of 2025, I was completely out of work and unable to make any money until May 2026. During this time, I used up all of the money I had been saving to finish my schooling and was the most broke I have been in a long time with no options. With my herniated disc sitting or standing for long periods and bending and lifting would irritate my sciatica. When that happens, my legs lock up and I struggle to walk. Even now, 10 months after my injury, I still cannot lift anything over 20 pounds without a back brace.

Gardening was my full-time job, and now that I am getting back into looking for work, all of the jobs I am qualified for with my years of gardening experience I can no longer do. These jobs pay 25-30 an hour. So, I am starting all over again from square one - physically and financially. Right now, I am so grateful to have a job on the weekends, but it is significantly less than I was making before. I work about 14-18 hours making minimum wage. At this point, any money is a blessing that I am so grateful every day to be able to have the choice to make money again.

However, no longer having control over my financial situation has definitely been a challenge. I have used this time to try and make money in what I can do. I have spent my whole life making art, so I decided that while I don’t have control, I might as well go all the way and lean into making art for now!

So I have been using all of this extra time creating designs out of my artwork!

Memauri Arts has taken my love for art and its ability to transmute something painful into something good to another level for me.

If you want to take the time to check out my website or some of my work, that would be awesome! I truly hope that you enjoy my work and some of it resonates with you.
